Wild Foods: Seasonal Staple Starches for Subsistence Series

Sometimes, dandelion greens just aren’t enough. Okay, all of the time. We need calorie rich wild foods that we can actually subsist from. Too many wild food books focus on leafy greens. While these greens are a necessary part of the diet, chalk full of vitamins and minerals, they are severely lacking in calories. In order to subsist from wild plant foods, you must incorporate calorie rich starches like roots, nuts, tubers, and rhizomes. These are the foods that make you feel “full”.
