Rewild Camp 1.28.12 : Bone Tools
I was super bummed to miss rewild camp last saturday, but Peter took some pictures; check ‘em out!

Rewild Camp 12.28.11
Today was the last Rewild Camp of 2011. Many folks came out in spite of the rain and wind. We worked on making cordage from the nettle fiber that we processed at the November Rewild Camp. Sev worked on tanning his skunk hide with coffee grounds, Eric read some stories in Chinuk Wawa, Caleb made a massive nettle cord while doing a show and tell of his amazing throwing sticks and boomerang collection, I showed Kyle how to do the “reverse wrap” cordage making technique and then Kyle taught all the new people how to do it. Quite a few new people showed up as well. Enjoy these pictures from today, and sign up on our mailing list to find out about next months Rewild Camp:

Rewild Camp today was awesome! We focused on bow making (although other skills were shared as well). Eric and Tony were kind enough to bring a bunch of black locust wood they harvested, which was a great material to work with. It was great to have some experts in the crowd to offer tips to those of us who are beginners. I for one am definitely looking forward to more bow making in the future.

Rewild Camp 7.2.11
Yesterday many friends joined us in the park for Rewild Camp. Skills were shared (I finally figured out the reverse wrap for cordage!), great conversations were had, and the weather couldn’t have been better!

Rewild Camp 6.18.11
I’ve been feeling a little bit under the weather these past few days, so I was unsure if I’d make it to Rewild Camp today. But I’m glad I did, because a lot of our good friends -as well a few new ones- showed up. People worked on bow drill fires, basket weaving, trap making, and flint knapping. Despite the rain, a good time was had by all!

Rewild Camp 6.11.11
I was a little nervous about Rewild Camp today because none of the Rewild Portland team could make it except for myself! Luckily I had the lovely Sarah Hill join me out there at the archery range and with her help we made it a success! There were about seven new people who showed up and about three or four people who hiking through the park, saw what we were doing and joined in. We shot some arrows and played with fire. Two of my very favorite activities. I got a couple coals with my English Ivy hand-drill set before my hands became too raw to try for another. I’m already starting to build up callouses from doing hand-drill several Rewild Camps in a row. It’s my new technique “same conversation” with hand-drills. I’m starting to see more and more how Rewild Camp can help everyone involved to continue to expand their fluency, simply by showing up and playing. Thanks to all who came out, it was great to meet you!

Rewild Camp 6.4.11
This morning me and the Rewild Portland staff went out and pulled ivy for basket-making at Rewild Camp. It was great to see so many faces discovering the art of basketry. We also played music and ate great food. Thanks all for coming and having a good time!
