Rewild Camp

Rewild Camp is a Saturday afternoon social networking picnic where people make new friends and hang out with old while sharing skills, ideas and strategies for creating new cultures based on our hunter-gatherer ancestral heritage. Rewild Camp operates as an Open Space skill-share. It occurs every last Saturday from 1pm to 3pm at a park in Portland, OR. We ask for a $5 suggested donation with no one turned away.

Monthly Themes

Each month we have a different theme for Rewild Camp. However, we encourage people to break the theme and work on whatever they want. We prefer diversity of activities, but we have found that themes help new people find their passions and increase attendance. People are invited to bring a project they are working on as well as some snacks to share with others. This person may go the extra mile and provide materials for others to work on the craft with them, or simply work on their own project as a demonstration.

Stuff To Bring:

• $5 donation (no one turned away)
• Dress to impress, this is a social event!
• Healthy, “paleo” food to share (we’ve got a barbecue if you bring meat or veggies to grill)
• Raw materials for your project
• Water bottle
• A carving knife
• A bandanna
• Dress for variations in the weather (cold and rainy!)
• A chair or something to sit on
• Please bring any materials you need for your demonstration. The park does not allow harvesting of any material and we want to make nice with the park people if they are there.

Safe Space:
This is an all-inclusive space for people of all types of abilities and backgrounds to learn and share with each other. We are queer friendly, straight friendly, race friendly, gender friendly, age friendly… just plain old friendly! Please be aware of oppressive language (this includes body language) and make nice with people. Fundamentalists probably won’t have a fun time and will be asked to leave. If anyone makes you feel uncomfortable please see one of our volunteer staff members.

Respect for Nature:
Rewilding differs from other skills and crafts in that we respect the natural world. All of the skills practiced here come with them a set of ethical principles for environmental sustainability and reverence. To be honest, sometimes we can get a little woo-woo even. If that makes you uncomfortable… well there are plenty of other groups out there teaching these skills from a pure utilitarian perspective.

Media Rules:
Rewild Camp occurs on public property and lots of pictures are taken there. We generally have a rule to please ask someone if they mind being photographed before taking a picture of them. We also ask that the photos are shared on this site.

Where:
Rewild Camp is held at various parks around Portland. We announce which park we will be at on our mailing list the Friday before. To know which park it will be happening at, you must subscribe to our mailing list by clicking the link to the upper right and following the directions.

When:
Rewild Camp occurs every last Saturday from 1pm – 3pm.

Cost:
We do not charge a fee for Rewild Camp, but it is made possible through suggested donation from $5 up to whatever you feel like giving. We also accept online donations which allow us to keep teaching for “free”. Please give us a donation.
