Wilderness Adventures
Backcountry Backpack to Bagby
In this five day course, we backpack from the foothills of the cascades in the Molalla River Corridor, through Table Rock Wilderness to Pechuck Lookout, then on to Joyce Lake and BLM managed timber lands, over the cascades and finally end at Bagby Hot Springs. From the base of Table Rock Wilderness to Bagby Hot Springs is close to 12 miles as the crow flies. However, traversing the wilderness is not the same as taking a straight line. The trek begins on worn hiking paths, but nearing the halfway mark it degrades into very rough country of thick brush and quick elevation changes, transforming those simple 12 miles into something much greater and challenging than that. This trip is very physically demanding, Bagby being a nice, relaxing touch at the end of a fun, but intense, journey.
This trek will cover:
• Basic Wilderness First Aid
• Cougar and Black Bear attacks
• Wilderness Navigation (GPS, map, compass, stars, sun, landmarks, songlines)
• Edible Wild Plants
• Fire Safety
• Forest Ecology
• Basic Backpacking Skills
• From “Leave no Trace” to “Leave a Positive Impact”
• Water purification
• Animal Track & Sign
