well I am new to the place i am living in. I used to live in Southern India, so this eco-zone is very new to me. In india i grew up knowing the plants and how to recognise common ones, but here its all new to me, plus the fact that its harder during winter (i.e. 7 months of the year). Wich reminds me if anyone can suggest a good source for learning about herbs around toronto or waterloo in Ontario lemme know. But if there is something anyone wud like from here (I live in Toronto and Waterloo ontario), either from the lake in TO or near waterloo lemme know, and also tell me what u use it for so it will be an educational experiance for me as well. If you DO need something that grows in india lemme know as well, i go there for vacation sometimes. I DO however need dogwood, i was told it is common in some parts of south/south eastern US (for the tooth of course), or perhaps an alternative u know works well for brushing. In india i used neem, but i dont feel like lugging bundles of neem unless i can help it. Thx. Also if someone lives around the area i am in, lemme know we can meet up and share ideas etc.

ETA: Also i got a CD on shamanic drumming that came with a book, i can send u the tracks via email if ud like.

I have lilac trees? bushes? that are seeding at this time if you will send the recipe I will make every effort to get it right. As to trading I have a vast storehouse of Apache desert lore, medicines, remedies, and survival secrets passed down from my grandfather.  I also make Medicine Wands/Sticks from nature cured Witch Willow limbs, Pinion Pine branches, Maple branches, Ash, and White Pine limbs. Also have access to many Eastern Washington herbs, plants, and spores.
Also have a fairly extensive DVD collection if interested.

Hi pagan48,

Welcome to the forum!  If you want to introduce yourself further, there is a space for it in the Introductions thread.

I also have a question for you.  Would you be comfortable sharing your Apache knowledge on the public forum (as opposed to trading it privately)?  I understand family secrets are family secrets (I would never give away my grandma's potato salad recipe, even if it was paleo-diet), but if you are willing to tell some people then it can't be THAT secret, right?  And one of the purposes of the forum is to make knowledge like that, which was once common knowledge, more accessible to anyone and everyone.

Look forward to hearing more from you. -Rebecca

BlueHeron please ask away and while I posted here it was mainly to put the information out to anyone interested. Many of the secrets that my grandfather taught me were to be passed on to anyone that asked or showed an interest to what seemed to him a disappearing way of life. (He passed away in 1968 at the age of 108).
Most of the information I have concerns the southwestern parts of the USA and northwestern parts of Mexico...however I have also picked up quite a bit of wilderness survival information from my time in the military, herbal information from extensive research of various religions and their practices including medicinal.
Last but not least I spent considerable time at several points in my life actually living off the country and avoiding civilization as much as possible in areas as diverse as the deserts of Nevada, the mountains of Colorado, the forests of Tennessee, the swamps and bayous of Louisiana, to the urban jungles of California. And while not pertinent to the USA I also have a bit of lore from Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Australia, Eastern Africa, Mediteranian, Europe proper, Great Britian and Ireland
Will be glad to share and help anyway I can.

Most of what I have to offer comes from two different regions. The Montana high country, and the desert. I have many, many natural history books for Montana, that I would be willing to do a sort of roaming library deal on (books are one thing that I most definitely hold on to) Also, simple stories and knowledge that has come from spending alot of time with two people in particular, a Lakota/Cheyenne girl from days gone by, and an older Lakota, one of the pipe bearers for the meetings up in these parts of the world. Really, it would come down to someone asking for something, and I would send it off. Mostly literature of one type or another, or simple tricks I have learned. I most definitely like the idea of this, I wish I would have stumbled upon it earlier.

My partner and I started an Etsy shop selling our crafts (linked in my signature), and also have a display at a local healthy and natural foods store.  We specialize in doing a lot of recycled stuff, like the can lamps I posted about, and some earrings made from can tabs.  You can get stuff from the shop directly, but I figured I'd also offer you all the opportunity to trade for stuff you want made.  Just drop me a line if you want something.

Dan,

I want a bow, but I don't know if I have anything to trade that would be equivalent.  I have a lot of herbs (mostly alaskan... tinctures, cranberry syrup, pain salve, a huge amount of loose alder and laborador tea), some canned salmon, and I could can you up some burbot.

Any of that sound good?  Or is there anything else you want from Alaska?
