Visions of the Rewilding Renaissance / Re: Picking up trash
« on: October 18, 2011, 12:00:56 AM »...For me, when I'm out hiking and enjoying the stream, the birds, the smell of humus, the sun filtering through the trees, it just feels profoundly disrespectful to leave any trash I encounter. I feel compelled to remove it. My own personal neurosis, I guess!
Not just your neurosis, Mama Love.
I enjoy some tobacco under a poor, civilised-restrained tree in the office complex where I work, every day.
And every day, after greeting the tree and bestowing a stream of smoke upon it, I look at the litter of dog ends, bubble gum and plastic which humans have thrown down around my arboreal friend. This, although there is a bin less than a metre away.
When I have finished my smoke and my visit, I usually pick up the litter.

Grief & Praise / Re: Seattle PD vs Jaywalkers: A Case Study in Civilized Dumb-assery

...and then there's this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN6g57s5jdU&feature=player_embedded.
Police shoot dog dead. Dog wasn't threatening. Dog wags tail at policeman after first bullet. Policeman then shoots dog in the head.
This made me so furious, and so sad. The sickness is both acute and widespread.
I don't know what to say anymore.

If you're someone who is still idealistic enough (or foolish, or immature, according to most of my "friends") to believe that humans can form healthy communities without a gun pointed at their heads, then this cop has to go.
This.
We have some pretty frightening cops in Joburg, too- much worse than this.

Spiritual Technology / Re: Shamanic initiation.

I wonder how many other rewilders share our experience? This just might be a common thing for us...
I think it may be at that.
I also received a Shamanic Dismemberment at around the turn of the millenium. It's only recently that I've taken it up fully. I'm a V..e..r..y s..l..o..w learner.
But I get there in the end.
Before I get hit by a second clue-by-four.
Love,
Terri in Joburg

I agree with This One.
Others in our dreams are frequently aspects of ourselves. The deer is you.
But I guess you've figured that out already.
Let yourself go.

Rewilding Mind & Heart / Re: Separating Civ from Self

BlueHeron,
I'm a physicist by qualification. I love mathematics.
To me, maths isn't a product of civ at all.
It's a beautiful entity in its own right. Like so much, it's the use it's been harnessed to do that is an abomination.
An ability and an appreciation of maths just means your brain is set up a certain way, and you'll find you're good at stuff like astronomy and understanding how things work, too - this is a useful skill to have in rewilding, as far as I'm concerned.
And shit, man, we do need it all.
Love,
Terri in Joburg

Yes - raw garlic can be a bit rough!
Last week I woke up with an incipient sore throat. could feel I was going to be hoarse within half a day.
So I ingested a large clove of raw garlic.
Now, I'm pretty used to garlic, having eaten it almost all my life ( I love the stuff!), but a whole raw clove can be pretty harsh.
Apart from the burn, I felt immediately sick to my stomach, as though I was going to throw up any minute.
(I should have taken heed of that 'not on an empty stomach').
The nausea passed within the hour, and my sore throat was knocked completely on the head.
Good stuff, yes, but use with caution.

Terri in Joburg

Hi Starving Wolf,
I'd go with the garlic, but also add a cup of yarrow (infusion or tea) daily.
Fresh if you can get it.
It's a great immune system booster.

I know - it's pretty much like one of Urban Scout's originals, and it's perpetuating this dastardly topic.
Oh well, vanity....
