**READ HERE FIRST** / Re: Introductions
« on: July 05, 2008, 01:04:34 PM »Hi Eivind, happy to have you here.
Hmmmmm.... just out of self-interested curiosity... could you tell us more about your Brazilian hammock? I have always loved hammocks and I want to experiment with making one that I can sleep in every night (without putting my back out...)
There's actually a thread started on hammocks: http://www.rewild.info/conversations/index.php?topic=610.0
It's a hand woven, real heavy and robust cotton hammock, not the net type. I don't know much about hammocks, I just know that if you got a bad back don't get one of those with "spreader sticks" in the ends. You want to lie with your head and feet on different sides(head on the right side, feet on the left), this way your back will be straight.

Bocce ball set Depends on what they're made of. The metal ones could be melted and shaped into knives, arrow heads, etc. Metal pieces are also good for attracting birds during hunting, to get them within range.
Plastic balls could also be melted and used as coating/paint, knife handles, cordage, string for instruments(CDs make nice picks/plectrums!), maybe fishing wire? If they float and are brightly colored they can be used for holding up fishnets.
Wooden balls can be carved into cups, containers, etc.
Plus, of course, ammo for slings.
Now, what useful could be done with that evil invention money?

You can definitely feel the air being sticky and heavy during lightning. Some people with arthritis say they can feel it in their joints even before a thunderstorm has arrived, so I don't see why other people couldn't sense it through practice?

Hello, my names Eivind and i'm norwegian(one of several on this forum it seems!). I've been interested in "primitive" theory for most of my life, but started practicing rewildening only recently. For as long as I can remember I've had a problem with domestication in all its forms, but I've never really had any people to discuss with or learn from until I found this forum, so it was a great relief when I stumbled upon it.
I'm 22 years old and live in the city of Oslo, struggling to stay sane while working a stressful job & loosing sleep over traffic noise. No need to say I camp in the forest whenever I can!
I love hanging out in libraries and used book shops reading and learning for hours, traveling, sleeping in my brazilian hammock between two pines on a forest cliff, fishing, heavy music, and gourmet cooking. One thing I would like to do before the collapse of civilization is to make an airplane drop with a parachute. I have an unhealthy addiction to pot, but plan on quitting when I move to the country - this autumn I'm joining a sustainable living/self-sufficiency school where I'll learn tons of cool stuff, and I can't wait!
Thanks for a great (but addictive!) forum!

My friend told me about an easy way to catch northern pike, but I think this would work on most types of fish. This works best on sunny summer days when the pike is lazy and hangs out in shallow water.
Take some bait, preferably a small fish, and crush it a bit (to make it smell more). Tie it to a pieace of string, then tie the other end to your foot. Grab a large rock, walk into the water and walk around in the weeds to spread the smell of the bait, lift the rock over your head and wait completely still.
When the pike comes after your bait, throw the rock at it(but you don´t have to actually hit it). The shock from the rock will make the fish pass out so you can pick it up.
I haven´t tried this myself though, but its on my list!
