Rewild Camps, Events & Meet-ups / Re: Trading Post
« on: September 22, 2008, 08:38:54 PM »
Most of what I have to offer comes from two different regions. The Montana high country, and the desert. I have many, many natural history books for Montana, that I would be willing to do a sort of roaming library deal on (books are one thing that I most definitely hold on to) Also, simple stories and knowledge that has come from spending alot of time with two people in particular, a Lakota/Cheyenne girl from days gone by, and an older Lakota, one of the pipe bearers for the meetings up in these parts of the world. Really, it would come down to someone asking for something, and I would send it off. Mostly literature of one type or another, or simple tricks I have learned. I most definitely like the idea of this, I wish I would have stumbled upon it earlier.

Water / Re: Rivers who no longer reach the sea

Orrrr, just be rid of a few key dams, that simply evaporate much of the river, and are used to supply those who live in certain areas with power. Interesting note, there are a couple rivers here in Wyoming that Wyoming does not own the water rights to. Montana and Colorado control the water. Go figure. Part of the problem is over population in the desert, where the carrying capacity of the range, so to speak, is not lush enough to support the population. [/end desert rant]

First step in rewilding: Go somewhere wild and listen...

I just love that feeling that the sound of leaves rustling a stream trickling and all the crickets and birds in the distance makes.

REWILD FORUM / Re: Rewild.info Conflict Resolution
« on: May 26, 2008, 08:19:00 PM »
So, it appears this thread is long since dead, but I'll throw in my two cents, since this is the interweb, and every one has an opinion. I have frequented a ski forum for 6 years, or so. There is very little moderation over there, for the simple fact that we police ourselves. People say something mean spirited, and they are flamed. It probably isn't the greatest way to do it, but it seems to work. The only time one of our 4 admins gets involved is when personal information is posted or actual violence ensues. *many times people who, say, have stolen money from someone, have wound up with someone on their doorstep* Aside from anything extreme, for me, the fights kind of keep the board going, except this ted person... the multiple posts in a row is a bit much for me. Anyway, good job guys, this is still one of my favorite forums to go to.

Ah, entanglement and quantum theory. How I wish I understood ye more. Couldn't agree more, by the way.

Tandy makes some pretty decent stuff. I have always been a fan of just making my own leather and doing all my own work. To me, brain tanning seems to work better and feel better than the chemically tanned products. If they get wet, and stiffen up, you just smoke them again. That is just my $0.02 cents, though.

I am confused.

Common Misconceptions / Re: The Lone Mountain Man
« on: January 24, 2008, 10:45:18 AM »
Wow. This thread is almost too much for my brain to wrap around, like many here. I am very impressed, it's great to see so many people of intellegence here! As said, society is different from civilization. As also said, there are many different ways for civilization to be enacted. The way I see it, I am anti-this-current-civilization. There are far too many flaws, and I have never thought of rewilding as being totally apart from all human beings. I have always thought of it more as a communal effort, a group of like minded people living in a self reliant way, separate from the current civilization's norms. My friend and I have been talking about it for quite awhile. The two of us, maybe more after a bit of time has elapsed, moving up into the mountains, or maybe running away to the desert, and surviving on our own. That is how I have always seen this process of "disappearing" being enacted. Just my opinion, though.

Very cool tool, but some of the IDs are a bit off for this part of Wyoming. Oh well, it is still fun and interesting to play with. On a related note, I read the editorials in the paper today, and just about screamed. Some *expletive deleted* was going on and on about how we don't need anymore wilderness areas in Wyoming, we already have too much, because by god, it will impede on his oil and mining claims. He actually used the phrase "burr under my saddle", not once, but twice. Anyway, I thought it was humourous after I got passed the irritated stage.

**READ HERE FIRST** / A great experience with a member

So I was bumming around this weekend in a hole in the wall place in what is now called Colorado. Well, I will come clean. I was at the Ouray Ice Fest with some friends of mine. So anyway, this guy comes up to me in the store Saturday night, and asks me if I want to come to a party. I say sure, why not, I'll get to meet new people, and have a couple of beers. I walk in a bit later, and this condo has maybe 8 people in it. Everyone is talking about climbing, and I realize that the lone woman is talking about animals in her dreams. So we continue talking and getting to know one another. We had some very intellegent conversation, which was very much welcome during a night that had mostly been filled with drunk people being ignorant and trying to hook up with whatever they could. So, my fine young friend, you know who you are, and hope to see you again!

Media Reviews & Recommendations / Re: Book Titles
« on: January 07, 2008, 04:45:32 PM »
Must put down a few, simply for the fact, that I have to.
Monkey Wrench Gang
Desert Solitaire
Down The River
All by Ed Abbey of course. I don't really know if these are the kinds of books you all are interested in, but, they are among my favorites.
