REWILD FORUM / BlueHeron = SilverArrow
« on: February 26, 2008, 09:41:36 AM »
I just wanted to make an announcement that SilverArrow, our new global moderator, has a new account name: BlueHeron.
Due to problems with her SilverArrow account not working correctly, she made a new account. All of SilverArrow's old posts now show up as BlueHeron, so don't feel surprised to find the new name showing up on old posts.
I'll let Rebecca introduce her new account to you formally at her leisure, but I wanted to make this announcement so that the community understands that the same person sits behind the keyboard with both accounts.

Seasonal & Bioregion Strategies / Rewilding you calendar: Full Moon Names
« on: February 01, 2008, 03:57:02 PM »
I stared doing a series on the folklore names for the full moons over on my blog. Jhereg stopped by and left a really good comment about the Shawnee names for the moon and how many of them relate to food. So I thought I would throw out -- as a challenge to the rewilding community -- the idea of making full moon name calendars based on different concepts.
For the first one, let's try food-related ideas. I present a partial calendar based on the Shawnee names for the community to build on. Obviously, the names we already have represent the more obvious options during the fruiting seasons. But I hope we can come up with some creative ideas for filling in the rest of the calendar.
January - ?
February - ?
March - Sap Moon
April - Fiddlehead Moon
May - Strawberry Moon
June - Raspberry Moon
July - Blackberry Moon
August - Plum Moon
September - Papaw Moon
October - ?
November - ?
December - ?

REWILD FORUM / New Member Title System
« on: September 28, 2007, 11:02:42 AM »

Grief & Praise / so much
« on: September 24, 2007, 03:09:03 PM »
i normally only cruise the forum at work -- unless is see a thread that i really want to respond to and don't have time to reply to before i go home.
friday, our work internet went down not long after lunch, and i didn't get on all weekend. it felt awesome to come back to the boards today and see so much going on here.
we'd had a lull for a while, and now things have started exploding. new voices have joined the throng bringing different experiences and perspectives, and almost every single board got some kind of attention. it felt like work trying to get through all the posts--but fun work.
so after a refreshing weekend of now rewild.info, i came back to work to get a whole lot of it. ebb and flow.

Grief & Praise / like father like son
« on: September 17, 2007, 11:27:46 AM »
the other day my son (19 mos) picked a dandelion and brought it to me and put it in my mouth. to my knowledge, he has never seen me just pick a dandelion and eat it, as i usually take them inside and wash them before cooking them up.
i felt so much joy and pride in the fact that my little guy not only picked the right kind of plant to eat but knew that i could eat it. he picked a few clover flowers, too, but he only smelled those.
i hope this indicates fun times of foraging with me and my boy.
